觀察近幾年來新款引擎的設計趨勢便能夠發現，似乎就連引擎的排氣量也開始走向M型化，許多主打一般消費族群的車廠紛紛推出排氣量1.0L、三具汽缸的迷你引擎取代傳統四缸引擎，而售價高昂的高級品牌或是超級跑車則持續在大排氣量多缸引擎上專注研發，以饗金字塔頂端客群的喜好。
